As I was awakened by the Sportscenter theme...dun nu nuh dun nu nuh.....I hear the day's headlines murmur in the background, and then the alarm goes off. No not the clock. I hear "The New England Patriots are giving Matt Cassell the franchise tag next season." I sit up and stare at the television in bewilderment for about 5 minutes. With snarl I think to myself ," You give the BACK UP quarterback the franchise tag!" Sure he carried the Bradyless Patriots to an unexpected 11-5, but Brady gave you a brand name. You can't coach that. The last time Matt Cassell started for a football team, I was in 8th grade....! As soon as NFL teams watch tapes of him, it will be over. BUT, I shouldn't have judged the book by its cover.
Upon more research, I find out that America's favorite quarterback, Tom Brady hasn't been going to rehab and has a staff infection in the knee in which he had surgery. Disgusting right? I know. Why has he been missing rehab? He's has ambitious of being Tinsle Town's favorite pretty boy, or so it seems. As a result of his delinquency, he will miss all of next season as well, because he had to undergo the same procedure, again.
So is giving Matt Cassell the franchise tag supposed to serve as a wake up call? Or is Brady's four quarters of fame over? If you remember correctly, Tom Brady was the back up quarterback after Drew Bledsoe until he suffered a season ending injury. You live by back-up, you die by the back-up....
