Barack Obama's Vulcain Cricket Anniversary Heart Watch
I reported that Swiss watch maker Vulcain was going to present President Obama with a Vulcain watch, and here is finally what the specific watch looks like. We know that Barack Obama typically wears his Jorg Gray 6500 watch most of the time, but he does have other timepieces. Vulcain has been giving out watches to US Presidents since the 1950s and the latest timepiece they've sent to the oval office is quite stunning. President Obama received a stainless steel Vulcain Cricket Anniversary Heart watch. The watch is part of the classic Cricket watches named as such for their loud alarms. The mechanical Vulcain Cricket V-18 movement is one of the loudest (if not the loudest) mechanical watch alarms on the market. The alarm complication is easy to set via the upper crown on the right side of the watch using the central ring on the dial. The watch also features a beautiful partially skeletonized dial - now popular on many luxury timepieces. The case is 42mm wide and water resistant to 50 meters.
The sides of the watch case feature a larger coined edge, while the overall styling is classic with the modern touches being reserved for the dial. The watch is easy to read and a good mix between formal and sporty in style. I happened to actually think the style suits President Obama quite well. Funny enough the black and steel tones of this timepiece match those of his Jorg Gray 6500 watch - creating similar looks. Let's hope he wears the watch on nice occasions. The retail price of the stainless steel version of the Vulcain Anniversary Heart watch is about $6,500. It is unclear whether versions such as the pictured one with the message to Barack Obama will be available at all to the public, as it is likely a one-off version reserved for the President himself. The Vulcain Anniversary Heart watches come in various tones as well as in 18k gold.viaLuxist.

Naked & Famous Selvedge Chinos
We saw Naked and Famous back at BBB and we were impressed with the quality, fit, materials and outlook of the brand. We weren’t so impressed with our picture taking skills, which made the collection look like something H&M would turn away. Thankfully someone who does know how to take a picture has captured their selvage chinos.
If you’re like us, you’re probably looking to give the indigo denim a break. Not give them up forever, mind – just give them a few more days in the wardrobe whilst you explore new colour options. These beige chinos are a nice halfway house between jeans and chinos and the colourway leaves plenty of room for colour experimentation. They’re also vanity sized, so you can feel slim asking for a 32″ waist when you’re really 35″.viaSelectism.

G-Shock - August 2009 Releases |
Not too long ago, we had a chance to speak with G-Shock’s founding father, Kikuo Ibe, and featured Ibe and his story with G-Shock here on Freshness. This month, while G-Shock continues to Shock The World with their global tour, the brand is releasing a new Crazy Color Series and a limited edition collaborative piece with The Brooklyn Circus.
The releases this month focuses on the larger and rounder DW-6900. For the collaboration with The Brooklyn Circus, the watch is done up in a simple black/white colorway with red accents and elephants logo on the face. The watch comes in a special vintage sepia colored packaging for an old-school safari feel.
The Crazy Color Series so far features three watches in bright purple blue and green, and the watches come with matching face and backlight color. Even the “G-Shock” logo on the watch rim is colored to match the rest of the piece. We know G-Shocks are practically indestructible, but we have no qualms about getting them in more colorways for a change.
We Love G-Shock Here at Urbane.

Oliver Spencer ‘Ridley’ Navy Jacket
While we love making random jibes about the preppy/workwear movement (say what you want, we still think ‘Take Ivy’ was a bit boring) there’s much to be admired in the trend as well. For instance, look at this Oliver Spencer jacket. It’s got all the poncey fashion details we like – the contrast buttons, the worn-in cotton – but it’s also got a detachable hood. And not just any old flimsy detachable hood, this one is made from the same sturdy material the rest of the jacket. Perfect for those windy, rainy summer days, so basically perfect for anyone in England or New York. viaselectism

Palladium Footwear
Back in the 1920s, Palladium took to the forefront in aircraft tire manufacturing. Eventually shifting their focus in 1947, Palladium would transfer their expertise in vulcanized production from tires to boots thanks to a large drop-off in tire demand. With popularity peaking in the 90s, Palladium was moving upwards of 1 million pairs of boots a year. Unfortunately thanks largely in part to a number of copycat brands, Palladium went on hiatus. But 2009 represents the return of the iconic boot brand. With an awesome story and concept-campaign exploring hidden urban jungles around the world, Palladium looks to present a new approach to story-telling and communication.viahypebeast
