6: Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince.

I love Harry Potter. Nuff said. I hope you can understand how long I have been waiting for this movie to come out. The film was slated to release in November, but with the success of The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. didn’t need the money anymore. They gave the date to another weird fantasy tale about an eternally teenage vampire falling in love with a girl from Forks, Washington. Hilarious. ☺

Superstar author and all around rich bitch JK Rowling (she has more money than the Queen of England! That’s insane!) began writing the series on napkins in a coffee shop as she struggled to raise her daughter as a teacher outside of Scotland. The Half-Blood Prince novel was released this time two years ago and the series ended with book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows in the summer of 2007. Since then, rabid fans have only had the option to re-read their old copies and waiting on pins and needles for the next two films to come out. I will attest to my own craziness. I wont divulge any of my behavior, but you guys already know that I am a bit unhinged.

I bought my ticket for the midnight showing a week before just to make sure there wouldn’t be any confusion. Imagine my surprise when I got sick the day before with some strange fever, coughing, sore throat thing. It wasn’t swine-flue. Trust. Needless to say I had to make my appointment with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore and the rest of the gang for later in the week. One afternoon later that week, I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to do it. It probably didn’t help that I had been sitting on the couch watching the 5th movie (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) from beginning to end on HBO for most of the day.

Director David Yates returned for the 6th installment and continued with his brilliant style of filmmaking making the transition between the two films seamless. It was as though the audience had to merely turn the page to continue the story of Harry Potter battling He Who Must Not Be Named. For those of you who have not seen the film or read the books, you will be confused. Period. It will be like walking into a lecture 30 minutes late. At that point, why go? The film itself is bitingly funny, harrowing, and dramatic. The story goes in so many directions it made my heart palpitate. Characters you thought were friends turn into enemies and those who you thought were bad, get even worse. There were a few moments in the story that weren’t fleshed out as nicely as they were in the book, but the man only had 2 and a half hours. The book was over 600 pages long. This is the beginning of the end of the Harry Potter series and what a wonderful ending they have created. The final film will culminate in a battle royal between Harry and Voldemort, terrorist extraordinaire and the most feared man in the wizarding world. Osama Bin Laden doesn’t have SHIT on Voldemort. For real.

If you aren’t a fan and feel like you need a little background on the series, hit up Wikipedia or Mugglenet.com. I wont judge you. I support individual education. They will hook you up with some good info. If you don’t want any spoilers be careful what you read. It’s hard to talk about the movie without giving anything away. It was just so good; you will have to see it to believe me.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is rated PG with a run time of 2 hours 33 minutes (Pee before you go. You can’t afford miss a minute!!)
