I'm sure by now you've already heard of the plight of the Iranian people post the "re-election" of a President who did not really win. (Sounds quite familiar of GWB 2000 no?) For the last week or so, thousands of Iranians young and old, male and female, have taken to the streets to voice their disgust. Several have been killed; more injured, and all for the sake of freedom. Would you die for a cause in America? Probably not seeing that our freedom battle was fought by our grandparents who did die and become bloodied in battle for something we each take for granted each day. (You do know that the Senate can send us back into slavery right?)
This article isn't about America, it's about NEDA SOLTAN, a young woman tragically killed for protesting in the streets. She wasn't a thug the way Iranian news outlets have been trying to portray her. In fact, she was extremely educated, came from a nice family, and had aspirations of being a tour guide. Those dreams have been dashed as she was murdered by riot police. She did not throw one stone. She just happened to be stuck in traffic and got out of the car to see what was going on. Neda was shot in the heart. "I'm burning, I'm burning!" she cried, and those were her last words. Although many are calling her "The Angel of Freedom", the government is objecting to her martyrdom.
I ask you to please watch this video.* It is extremely graphic and unsettling, but this is real life. Some of you will watch worse for $9.75 and a few hours of entertainment at the local cinema. My friend Wally.Vega always says, "I hope you live before you die". I'll echo his sentiments and say, I hope you will die for something instead of living for nothing.
